Merry Christmas!

Throughout the month of December, I have been amazed to see all of the blessings that God has given to Macomb Christian. The teachers and staff are dedicated to the students and their families. The families of the school are so encouraging and supportive of each other and the teachers and staff. This is such a huge blessing to all of us. God has gifted each of our students and I love seeing the students utilize these gifts to honor God.

As we are celebrating the Christmas season, I wanted to share one of my favorite verses with you. I find this verse so encouraging, and I hope you do as well:

Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

I feel so privileged to be part of the work that God is doing at MCS. Thank you for your support and prayers. Thank you for choosing to be a part of our school. May God bless your family during this Christmas season!

Busy Weeks at MCS

There are definitely a lot of activities going on at Macomb Christian this time of year. For the past several weeks the elementary students have been bringing in various toys and other items to put into shoe boxes that will be donated to Lighthouse Outreach Center in Roseville. Friday during chapel, each of the elementary classes brought their shoe boxes down to the library, and then all of the elementary students prayed for the boys and girls who will be receiving the shoe boxes.

All of the music students are getting ready for their upcoming Christmas concerts. The band students and secondary choir students will be performing this Thursday at 7 pm at Hope Community Baptist Church. The elementary music and choir students will have their concert on Thursday, December 16 at 7 pm at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

The elementary students will be shopping this week at the Christmas Shop put on by the Parent Teacher Congress. This is a great opportunity for the children to purchase affordable Christmas gifts.

Welcome to December!

Each month there are a lot of activities going on at MCS, but this month we are squeezing the activities into fewer days. Next week, the Parent Teacher Congress (PTC) will be hosting the Christmas Shop to give our students an opportunity to purchase affordable Christmas gifts. Further information about this is being sent home with the children.

All of students involved in music, choir, and band have been busy practicing for their upcoming concerts. All of the band students along with the secondary choir students will have their concert on Thursday, December 9 at Hope Community Baptist Church. The early education center children as well as the elementary music and choir students will have their concert on Thursday, December 16 at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

December is a favorite month for many people, but it is also a very busy month. It seems that there are extra activities with school, church, and family. My prayer during this Christmas season is that we do not lose sight of the true meaning of this season.

Happy Thanksgiving

Psalm 100
"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations."

I am so thankful that God is allowing me to be involved in His work at Macomb Christian Schools. I pray that all of you have a blessed Thanksgiving!

November

This past Wednesday, our elementary students were invited to be apart of the Korean War Memorial Ceremony at Warren City Hall. The students led the audience in saying the Pledge of Allegiance and singing, "God Bless America."

On Friday and Saturday, the class of 2011 and other students performed Goldilocks on Trial. The students have been working hard to get ready for the performances and they all did a great job. This Wednesday, November 17, the seniors will be hosting another pancake breakfast. All the proceeds from both events help to offset the cost of the senior trip.

It seems like the students and teachers are both looking forward to a few days off school next week to celebrate Thanksgiving. I pray that it will be a blessed time for you and your family to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for.

Welcome to November!

I can hardly believe that October is over and it is November already. This school year is going by so fast. The first quarter is finished, the fall sports team have finished their seasons, and the winter sports teams are busy practicing.

There were a lot of activities in October. I would like to thank all of you for coming to parent teacher conferences. The teachers enjoyed having an opportunity to talk with each of you. The National Honor Society inducted its new members on October 26. Julia Herlein, Caleb Swiatek, and Hannah Wasil are the newest members of our NHS chapter.

November is going to be another busy month. Our next Munchy Monday is this coming Monday at Pei Wei. On November 12-13, the seniors will be performing Goldilocks on Trial. This is always a fun event and all proceeds go to help offset the cost of the senior trip. I am sure that the students (and teachers) are looking forward to Thanksgiving break. There will be no school November 24-26.

One of my favorite verses for this time of year is Psalm 107:1, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever."

A Busy Week in October

Over the past few weeks, the school library has been transformed to host a Scholastic book fair. Artwork from many of the students is on display to help with the "heroes" theme. The elementary students were challenged to read 1,000 books in 4 weeks in hopes of earning a free recess. The students actually read 2,134 books!!! I think we were all amazed at how many books our students could read when challenged.

Parent teacher conferences were held this past Thursday. It was encouraging to see so many families come. The list of students that made the honor roll is posted by the front office. Congratulations to all of the students who worked hard this quarter and made the honor roll!

Another Busy Week

This past week all of the fall sports teams were busy with practice and games. The elementary girls team played their last game of the season on Thursday. The soccer teams were blessed with some beautiful weather this week for their games.

On Friday it was great to see all of the students in their Servathon shirts for celebration day. The students watched a slide show in chapel with pictures from the Servathon, and they all enjoyed special treats during lunch time.

Our next Munchy Monday is tomorrow at American Pie. This week is also the last week of the 1st quarter. I am sure that the students will be busy this week getting their assignments turned in.

Welcome to October!

It is hard to believe that September is over already. I can’t believe how quickly this school year is going by. We were blessed with some beautiful weather this week which provided an opportunity to have a fire drill. We are required to do 6 throughout the school year – 2 down, 4 more to go.

There is a Parent Teacher Congress (PTC) meeting this Tuesday at 7 pm in the library. This is a great opportunity for you to meet other parents, hear about some of the activities going on around the school, and provide your input as well.

We have 2 more weeks left in the first quarter for this school year. Secondary parents are able to log into the school’s website and check their student's grades so that when report cards are issued it will not be a surprise. Secondary teachers update the grades by Monday of each week.

The elementary students are busy trying to read 1,000 books by the book fair. They have already read over 300 books, so they are off to a great start so far. If they reach their goal, the elementary students will receive an extra recess. There is also a fun video regarding the book fair on the school’s website so be sure to check it out.

Detroit Servathon 2010

On Thursday, September 23, 2010, all of the students from Macomb Christian along with the teachers and many parents participated in the Detroit Servathon. There were 4 other schools (Southfield Christian, Oakland Christian, Washtenaw Christian, and Franklin Road Christian) that participated in the Detroit Servathon. The students of Macomb Christian were spread throughout the community.

The EEC students cleaned up around the school and went to visit our neighbors. The lower elementary students stayed at school to clean up the gardens and pick up trash. They also made cards to send to soldiers. The upper elementary students went to a local nursing home to sing songs and take cards to the residents. The junior high students cleaned up the gardens at a local nursing home and picked up trash along Martin Road. The 9th and 11th grade students went to Bunert Schoolhouse to scrape the paint to get it ready to be painted. Some of the students were able to help start painting the schoolhouse as well. The 10th grade class went to 4 homes of Warren residents that needed some help with yard work. The seniors went to Central Detroit Christian with the senior classes from the other schools. Our seniors spent time organizing a warehouse.

The Servathon was an incredible day. I was able to spend time with each group throughout the day. I loved seeing our students, teachers, and parents working side by side to help other people. God blessed us with a beautiful day. The students were able to accomplish a lot on all of the projects they worked on. I am looking forward to making the Servathon an annual event!

The First Full Week of School

This past week was the first full week of school. The sports seasons are in full swing with all of the teams busy practicing and having games. Last Monday was the first "Munchy Monday" at Leason's. There is a new location each month so be watching your email for the details.

Friday night was the Friday Night Blast sponsored by the 9th grade class. The students worked hard coming up with new ideas for this event and getting ready for it.

This week will be another busy week. On Thursday our school will be participating in the Detroit Servathon with 5 other Christian schools. Our students, parents, and staff will be doing different service projects throughout the community. Please join with me in praying for this event!

"How Great Are Your Works, O Lord!" (Ps. 92:5)

Psalm 47:2, “How awesome is the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth!”

Psalm 107:1, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

I have had many people ask me about the enrollment for the school year. Many of you may know the great news, but I wanted to make sure that all of you know. Right now, our K-12 enrollment is 173 students! This is 14 more students than we had last year! We had 90% of our families from last year return for the 2010-2011 school year.

This is truly amazing to think how God has provided for Macomb Christian not only this past year but since the school started in 1983. Thank you to all of you who joined with us in prayer as we asked God to provide for MCS. May God be praised!

Please join with me as thank God for his abundant blessings and continue to pray for His direction for the school.

Psalm 113:2, “Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore.”

Psalms 126:3, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

The First Two Weeks

The 2010-2011 school year is underway and things are going well. The first 2 weeks have been very busy weeks. It seems like everyone is adjusting to the routine of coming to school again, but I think everyone was glad for the long weekend.

The first PTC (Parent Teacher Congress) meeting will be Tuesday, September 7 at 7:00 pm in the library. This is a great opportunity for you to find out how to be more involved at the school. Parents can also earn a continuing education hour simply for coming to the meeting.

I have had several people ask me what the enrollment is for this year. Currently, we have 170 K-12 students! This is 11 more students than we had last year. Whenever I think about this, I am amazed at how God has provided. We prayed and asked God to send us more students and He has! My prayer has been and will continue to be that Macomb Christian will follow God's leading and be the school that He wants us to be!

Welcome To A New School Year!

The 2010-2011 school year is officially here. This past week was a very busy week at Macomb Christian. On Monday night we had our Back to School event. This was a very exciting night with many different activities taking place. It was great to see all of the families back in the school.

Wednesday was the first day of school for the students. Excitement and anticipation filled the halls as students, parents, and teachers waited for the new school year to begin. We have many new students this year, and I was encouraged to see how comfortable they felt at school by Friday afternoon.

This week the students will be bringing home blue information folders regarding the Servathon. I believe that this will be an amazing event and I am thrilled that MCS is going to be apart of it. Please be watching for the folders to come home to find out how your family can be involved.

I am so excited about all of the possibilities that a new school year holds. I know that God has many great things planned for Macomb Christian, and I truly feel blessed to be apart of His work.

Just A Few More Days...

It is hard to believe that in a few days, we will be starting the 2010-2011 school year. As each day goes by, I am getting more and more excited for school to start. I can't wait to have all of the students back in the building. It is too quiet there without them.

I hope that all of you are planning to attend the Back to School Event on Monday night. We will be having a new student meeting, senior parent meeting, sports meeting, and much more. There will be an opportunity for all students and parents to meet all of the teachers and go to the classrooms.

Please continue to check out the school's website (www.macombchristianschools.org) for the most recent back to school information. Continue to check out the website throughout the school year. We will be using the website to communicate a lot of information.

I hope to see all of you Monday night!

Two Weeks and Counting...

I can hardly believe that in just 2 short weeks the first day of school will be here. I am so excited to have all of the students back in the hallways. Everyone is working very hard getting ready for the big day. The K-12 enrollment is currently around 150 students. Everyday we are receiving phone calls with families interested in MCS so keep praying!

I wanted to tell you about 2 major events that will be happening soon. The first is the Back to School Event on Monday, August 23. This event is a combination of several different nights we typically have. All new families should plan on attending the New Student Orientation at 6:30 in the library to learn more about the school. Throughout the evening secondary students will be able to pick up their class schedules and locker assignments in the gym. The revised Parent/Student Handbook will also be available that evening. Meet the Teacher night will also take place during the event from 7:00-8:00 pm. This is an opportunity for parents (and students) to meet all of the teachers, learn about each class, and ask questions. More information on this event can be found on the school's website under the Back to School link.

The second event is the Servathon on Thursday, September 23. On this day, students, parents, and school employees from 6 Christian schools will be coming together to serve the Detroit region. Approximately 5,000 people will be out on this day serving and connecting. We will need all of your help to make this event possible. We need parent volunteers to help coordinate projects, drive students, serve with the students, and more. Check out the school's website for more information on how to help out.

Keep checking the school's website for more information on these events and more back to school information. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on August 23!

Summertime!

I hope that you are all enjoying a wonderful summer vacation. It is very strange to be at school without the teachers and students. The halls are definitely quiet.

Lately, I have been reflecting on all of the amazing things that God has done over the past year. I keep thinking back to last summer and all of the uncertainty that surrounded it for Macomb Christian. I am so grateful that God is continuing to use the ministry of Macomb Christian to impact the lives of our students and community.

There is a lot of work going on at Macomb Christian so that we are ready for the 2010-2011 school year. I have the privilege of meeting with all of the new families each school year. I love talking with each of them and telling them about MCS. They are excited for the school year to start and so am I.

Continue to watch the school's website throughout the summer for updates. The supply lists are posted and more information will be coming soon.

The End of the School Year

Friday was the last day of school for the students. Commencement was held Friday evening. The 2009-2010 school year is officially over. The elementary students were very busy this week finishing up their projects and going on field trips. They also participated in field day on Thursday morning, and their honors assembly was held Friday morning.

The secondary students enjoyed taking some new classes this week for J-Term. I enjoyed walking around to see the projects the students were working on and to hear about the new things they were learning. The boys in the martial arts class seemed to be having the most fun when they were trying to break boards on Friday.

As I was sitting at commencement Friday evening, I was reminded of the miracle of that event. There was a point last summer when we didn't know if Macomb Christian would graduate another class. I am so grateful to God for the blessings He has provided so that the ministry of Macomb Christian will continue.

Getting Ready for the Last Week of School

It is hard to believe that at the end of this week the 2009-2010 school year will be over. It seems like the school year just started. I know that the high school students were very relieved on Friday when they finished taking their last exam. They seemed relieved as they left school that afternoon.

On Friday, all of the elementary students that reached their AR (Accelerated Reader) goal all four quarters were treated to a special lunch. I am so proud of all of these students who worked so hard to achieve this. I was glad to see that so many of the students had been busy reading throughout the school year. I have challenged all students entering 1st - 6th grades to keep reading throughout the summer. Information on the challenge will be coming home soon.

This coming week is going to be a busy week. There will be Kindergarten graduation, elementary and secondary honors assemblies, field day, year-end trips, J-term, and commencement. I am sure there are other events that I have forgotten to mention. Please join me in praying that we will all finish strong!

May Is Almost Done!

Last week was probably one of the quietest weeks around school since school started back in August. The seniors were in Florida all week for their senior trip. The junior high students went to camp from Wednesday to Friday. And the 9th-11th grade students went to Cedar Point and the Toledo Zoo on Thursday and Friday. All of the students and chaperones seemed to have a great time on their trips. The weather was beautiful, so all the activities could continue as planned.

The elementary students in Mrs. Dubois' class were very busy on Monday and Tuesday. Their businesses were open, so many parents and fellow students came to see what they had for sale. Many "barks" were spent there on some interesting items. I thought it was great to see the variety of items that the students were selling. This project provides a fun way for the students to learn a little bit about how a business works.

Please be praying for our high school students. They will be taking their final exams Wednesday through Friday this week. Please also be in prayer for Mrs. Kimberly Scott. She had hip replacement surgery on Friday. The surgery went well, so please pray for her recovery.

Three Weeks Left!

This week was the last full week of school for the seniors. They were very excited on Monday when they realized it was their last "Monday of high school." Mr. and Mrs. Whiteaker will be chaperoning the seniors on their trip to Florida this week. Please be in prayer that everyone would be safe and have a great time as well.

When I arrived at school on Wednesday and Thursday, it was strange to see so many people already at school. The junior high and high school students signed up for their J-Term classes before school, and some of the students arrived at school very early in order to make sure they could sign up for their first choice in classes. I am excited to see the variety of classes we have to offer this year. J-Term will take place from June 7-11, so I will write more about it later.

The elementary/junior high sports banquet was held on Thursday evening. It was a a special evening to celebrate the hard work and dedication of those involved. The junior high softball and baseball teams had their last games of the season on Friday after school. Both teams played hard and it was easy to see how much they had improved over the season. I am looking forward to watching them again next spring.

Another Week At MCS

The kindergarten students went on a field trip to the farm on Tuesday. Despite the rainy weather, the students had a fun time seeing all of the different animals.

The 5th and 6th grade students have been working on research reports for several months. On Thursday afternoon, they invited their parents and the other elementary students to come see what they had learned.

Everyone had a great time at the Walkathon on Friday. It was a beautiful day to spend at the park. I was impressed with how many miles some of the students walked. After a picnic lunch, many of the students still had time to enjoy the playground until it was time to go back to school.

This week is the last full week of school for the seniors. They have been counting down to this and are very excited to be almost done.

A Very Busy Week

Wow! I cannot believe how many things we had going on at Macomb Christian this week. It was a very busy week, but it was also another great week. On Wednesday, all of the elementary students participated in ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously). From 10:00-10:15, the students went outside to run/walk around the school. It was a beautiful day to be outside.

On Thursday, our students participated in 2 special events in honor of the National Day of Prayer. The Spiritual Life Committee planned a special chapel for all of the secondary students. The students led the entire chapel including devotionals, songs, and prayer time. The elementary students participated in the city of Warren National Day of Prayer event by singing a song there.

Our 10th annual Celebration of the Arts was held on Friday. This is probably one of my favorite events throughout the school year. I love seeing all of the artwork hanging up around the school. I also enjoy seeing each of the different groups perform the songs that they have spent so much time working on. Miss Hafemeister and Mrs. Tucker spent many hours getting ready for this event, and I greatly appreciate all of their effort. It was a wonderful night that everyone seemed to enjoy.

Saturday, May 1, 2010

Welcome to May!

I can hardly believe that today is the first day of May. These next few weeks of school are going to go by so quickly especially with all of the activities that will be taking place. The drama department presented their play this weekend. The students have been working hard for several months and they did a great job.

On Friday, twenty-eight of our secondary students participated in the Oakland Christian School Math Competition. The students spent several hours taking math tests trying to get the best score. Our Trigonometry students won first place. Their trophy is in the front office. Two students, Evan Yahr and Matt Hurst, also received ribbons for their individual scores.

As I look ahead to next week, it will be a very busy week at Macomb Christian. We will be having another open house on Monday from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please invite people that you know to come look around the school; feel free to come show them around as well.

Mrs. Tucker and Miss Hafemeister will be very busy this week getting ready for Celebration of the Arts (COTA) on Friday. Please pray for them as they have many details to finalize this week. I hope to see you all there!

Another Busy Week at MCS

Thank you to all of you who came out to our spring reception last night. I truly enjoyed watching so many of our students use the gifts and talents that God has blessed them with. It seemed like everyone had an enjoyable evening.

The spring sports seasons are in full swing. All of the teams are busy with practice and games most days after school. The students seem to be enjoying themselves. Thankfully, the weather has been fairly nice, too.

The drama department is getting ready for their spring production. They will be performing You Are Special and You Are Mine by Max Lucado. The performances are Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 at 7:00 pm at MCS. Hopefully, you will be able to come support the students.

The journalism class has finished the yearbook, so the students have been writing a blog. The blog can be accessed by going to the school website (www.MacombChristianSchools.org) and clicking on MCS Happenings under the Activities/Clubs tab. This provides a students' perspective on some of the events happening around the school.

Welcome Back from Easter Break!

I was very excited to come back to school this past week after being off for Easter break. It seemed like it took several days for all of us to get back into the routine of getting up early and coming to school. I loved that we were able to enjoy some beautiful weather this week.

There was a lot of anticipation in the library this week. Mr. David Herlein and Mr. Gary Couture have been working very hard for several months trying to get the computerized card catalog system up and running in the library. Many of you know that Mrs. Kuhnle has been working hard and waiting a long time for this to happen. On Thursday afternoon, they were able to check out a book using the computerized system. It was exciting to see the system working. Mrs. Kuhnle will be testing the system with one elementary class to work out some of the glitches before using it with the whole school in the fall. A big THANK YOU to everyone that helped with this project.

Sunday, April 11, 2010

Welcome to April!

I hope that you all had a blessed Easter celebration and that the students have enjoyed their time off school. The days before Easter break were busy days at Macomb Christian. VIP Day on Thursday was definitely an exciting day. Even as the students were arriving at school Thursday morning, I could sense the excitement that they all had. VIP Day was a wonderful day that everyone seemed to enjoy. I am looking forward to this becoming a tradition at MCS again.

This Tuesday will be another Tasty Tuesday sponsored by the Parent Teacher Congress (PTC). This event will take place at the Applebee's at 12 Mile and Van Dyke and will be going on all day. Remember to give your server a flier, so MCS will receive 15% of the proceeds. There will also be a PTC meeting on Thursday evening. This is a great opportunity for the parents and teachers to work together to find ways to share your ideas and help out.

It is hard to believe that we will be entering into the final stretch of the school year tomorrow. I am excited to see everyone again tomorrow. I was at school a couple of days this past week, and it was definitely very quiet.

Sunday, March 28, 2010

The End of March

This past week was a great week at Macomb Christian. On Thursday evening we held our parent/teacher conferences. Thank you so much to all of the parents that were able to attend. Your attendance encourages our teachers. It also reminds us that we are all working together to help the students be successful.

Saturday evening was the school talent show. The freshmen class did a great job with this event especially since this was their first year organizing it. I was so surprised to see all of the different acts. The students did a great job using the gifts and talents that God has given to them.

This coming week is sure to be another busy week at MCS. The elementary students and teachers will be busy getting ready for VIP day on Thursday. I am excited to see who the students are going to bring to school with them.

I trust that this week will also be a time of reflection for all of us as we remember the great sacrifice that Jesus made for us. I always look forward to the celebration that takes place on Easter Sunday!

Ending the Third Quarter

It is hard to believe that Friday was the last day of the third quarter. This school year has gone by quickly. I am sure that the last quarter will be busy with all of the extra "end of the year" activities.

Thank you to all of the parents that have returned their surveys. I greatly appreciate your input. If you have not had an opportunity to fill them out and return them, please do so as soon as possible.

I also wanted to remind you that parent/teacher conferences will be this Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm. Elementary teachers will be contacting you if they would like to set up a conference. Parents may also request a conference with their child's teacher. All of the secondary teachers will be available in the gym during conference time. If you would like to speak with any or all of your child's secondary teachers, please stop by the gym on Thursday evening.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Another Busy Week at MCS

This past week we enjoyed some beautiful weather. The elementary students were so excited to go outside for recess to enjoy it, and I think the adults were excited to take them out. Some of the P.E. classes also enjoyed going outside.

Tuesday was another installment of "Tasty Tuesday." This one was hosted by the EEC at Chuck E. Cheese. Everyone had a great time. Thank you to those of you who came out to support the EEC as they raise money for a new playground.

Early Friday morning several secondary students and parents headed out for the ACSI music festival in Illinois. This provides an opportunity for our students to be apart of a band and choir with students from other Christian schools. Thank you to Miss Hafemeister for all of her hard work and to the parents that chaperoned this trip

March Is Here!

There was a lot of activity this past week at MCS with all of the preparation for the auction. There were many volunteers at school all week doing their part to help get things ready for the auction. It was exciting to see all of the details come together.

The weather was beautiful on Saturday as we had our 5th annual auction at Macomb Christian. It was great to see so many of you at school enjoying all of the festivities. I hope that you all had a great time. As I walked around the silent auction, I was amazed at some of the incredible items that had been donated. Hopefully, you were able to walk away with some good buys.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and donated items. The auction would not have been a success without you. Thank you to those who came out and bought items at the auction.

I hope that all of you have been enjoying the beautiful weather that we have been having. I have loved seeing the sun out so much. Don't forget about about Tasty Tuesday this week at Chuck E. Cheese.

The End of February

I saw a lot of tired students walking into school each day this week. It seemed like it took all of us several days to get back into the routine of waking up early after having the week off for winter break. There were a few changes made at school over the break. When you first walk in the front door, it is an obvious reminder that the auction is coming up. There was also some painting done in the gym.

It was great to see such a big turnout for the blood drive on Thursday. There was a steady crowd throughout the night. The student/faculty games were held on Friday evening hosted by the sophomore class. Everyone in attendance had a great time. The jail was busy most of the night.

I am sure that this week will be a busy week with all of the work being done to get ready for the auction on Saturday. This is a great opportunity for you to invite friends and relatives to come see MCS. I hope to see you all there!

Winter Break!

Last week was an exciting week at Macomb Christian. We started out the week with our open house on Monday evening. Thank you to those of you who invited people to the open house. We had 24 families attend who were given the opportunity to have a tour of MCS and have some of their questions answered. Please continue to tell people why you love Macomb Christian; you are the best method of advertising that we can find.

The Fine Arts Boosters hosted a "Tasty Tuesday" at Big Boy. Despite the snowy weather, we had a great turn out and a lot of fun. I know that the students enjoyed their snow day on Wednesday based on the number of "thank you's" that I received. The elementary students ended the week by celebrating Valentine's Day together. I enjoyed walking into the different classrooms and seeing the students having fun with each other.

February Is Here!

This past Thursday was an exciting night at Macomb Christian. We had an informational, parent meeting where you were given the opportunity to hear about some of the future plans for MCS. It was also the kick-off for our re-enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year. I would like to thank all of you for showing your support by coming to the meeting and also for being apart of the surprise for me. I truly feel blessed by all of the support and encouragement that I am shown everyday.

This next week will be a busy week. Monday night is our open house. We need you to help by telling other people about Macomb Christian. Tuesday is the next installment of "Tasty Tuesday." The Fine Arts Boosters will be hosting the event at Big Boy located at 12 Mile and Hoover from 4:00-8:00 pm. I hope to see you all there! There will also be a PTC meeting on Thursday at 7:00 pm in the library.

Spirit Week!

This past week was spirit week at school, and I think that all of the students enjoyed it. It was great to see how many students participated each day by dressing up according to the theme. On Friday, almost everyone was wearing red, white, or blue. The elementary students brought their noise makers to the pep rally to add to the excitement. It was great to see so many of you come out to the homecoming game on Friday night wearing your red shirts.

Friday was also the day of the ACSI Spelling Bee. We had 8 students represent Macomb Christian while competing against other ACSI schools. Luke Soave in first grade won first place in his grade level. Hannah Florendo (3rd grade) and Patrick Gibbs (6th grade) each won second place in their respective grade levels. All of our students did a great job.

Thank you to all of you who brought in money that we will be sending to Haiti. We are still working on counting all of the change that was brought in, but we were overwhelmed by how much we had. Don't forget about the All School Meeting this Thursday, February 4th at 7:00 pm. We are busy planning for next year and are excited to share some of those plans with you!

Getting Ready for Spirit Week!

This past week was a short week for the students, and it certainly seemed to fly by. The teachers worked hard on Monday getting some projects done. I hope the students enjoyed their extra day off school. The elementary students seemed to enjoy going outside for recess this week.

On Friday and Saturday the secondary students worked hard decorating their rooms for spirit week. There is a lot of excitement around the school for the fun activities planned for this week. I hope to see many of you at the Homecoming game on Friday night. Don't forget to wear your red shirts!

Please mark your calendars for the All School Meeting on Thursday, February 4 at 7:00 pm. This will be an exciting time for you to hear about some exciting plans for MCS. Re-enrollment information for 2010-2011 will also be available for you to pick up that night.

Establishing A Routine

We just finished our second week of school in 2010. This week I noticed that many students were finally easing back into the routine of coming to school. It's a good thing too since this past week was a busy week.

Monday night we had a wonderful time of praising God for His many blessings and also praying for our school. It was incredible to hear people share stories of how they have seen God working in their lives recently. I feel blessed to work in a school where God is the focus of everything that we do.

Tuesday we held our school spelling bee. The winners and runners-up from 5th-8th grade competed against one another. Jacob Patterson won the spelling bee, and Hadiya Knight was the runner-up for the school. Tuesday night was another installment of "Tasty Tuesday" at Del Taco. Many of you have commented how busy it was when you stopped by. I am sure the junior high students are grateful for all who came out to help them raise money for their trip to camp.

Friday night all of the senior athletes were honored between the basketball games. Once all the athletes were out on the court with their parents, I was surprised to see that most of the students in the senior class play at least one sport. It was also great to see so many people come to show their support to the teams. I hope that all of the students enjoy their long weekend!

Welcome to 2010!

Happy New Year! I am so excited to be starting a new year even though it is in the middle of our school year. It was great to see everyone back at Macomb Christian ready to start the 2nd semester. I think it took all of us a few days to get back into our routine of getting up early, but hopefully, we are all ready to start another week.

Last week was a fairly quiet week. All of the basketball teams had their first home games of the season. Looking ahead to this week, we have the Prayer and Praise Celebration on Monday night at 7:00 pm. Please join us as we thank God for all He has done for us. Tuesday night is our next "Tasty Tuesday" event. The junior high students are hosting this event at Del Taco on Hoover.

Many of you have been asking how you can help Macomb Christian, and I have a few suggestions. Pray! Pray that we will continually seek God's direction and what He has planned for MCS. We have all seen the power of prayer, and I don't want us to ever stop praying. Secondly, Macomb Christian has a wish list on Amazon.com. The wish list has general, everyday items as well as some items that specific teachers have requested.

Thank you to all of you for your help and support. I am praying that 2010 will be a year where God uses Macomb Christian Schools to reach others for His kingdom.
